What is Aspire Liverpool?
Aspire Liverpool is a unique programme to raise the aspirations and increase the confidence and skills of Liverpool school students to make successful applications to the top universities in the UK and abroad. The programme was formally launched in March 2020.
Aspire Liverpool identifies, in partnership with Liverpool secondary schools, able and talented students from all Liverpool secondary schools who will benefit from a programme of encouragement, support and intellectual preparation in order to increase the number of successful applications from all Liverpool schools to Oxbridge and other top universities in this country and abroad.
The programme brings together able students from each Liverpool school into a structured and articulated programme of preparation which includes raising aspiration, building confidence, intellectual formation and application and interview preparation. The programme is governed by a steering group headed by Sir Terry Leahy and includes representatives from Liverpool secondary schools, the Liverpool business community, Liverpool city council and universities.
Aspire Liverpool caters to approximately 200 students in Year 10 -11 (Inspire programme) and 200 students in Year 12-13 through the Reaching Higher programme
What is The Girls Network?
The Girls Network believes that all girls should be supported to realise their ambitions, to discover their self-worth, and to develop their capacity to shape their world and their future.
They partner with secondary schools and colleges across Greater London, Sussex, the South Coast, the West Midlands, Greater Manchester, Tyne and Wear, Tees Valley and Merseyside, to match girls aged 14-19 with a volunteer mentor who is a woman.
The programme will give participants on-going support from their mentor, connections and experiences in the industry in which they want to work, and participation in a range of sessions ranging from university application to mental health workshops.
What is the Extended Project Qualification (EPQ)
EPQ is an A-level standard standalone qualification designed to extend and develop your students' abilities beyond the A-level syllabus and prepare for university or their future career.
- it can be taken as an extension of other Level 3 qualifications or vocational qualifications
- it's worth half an A-level (28 UCAS points)
- it's recognised by universities and employers
- many universities make lower A-level offers to students undertaking an EPQ.
